Aleksandr Sergeerich Pushkin Alexander Pushkin (1799- 1837)
Loved.
I loved you, and I probably still do, And for awhile the feeling may remain; But let my love no longer trouble you, I do not wish to cause you any pain. I loved you; and the hopelessness I knew, The jealousy, the shyness -- though in vain -- Made up a love so tender and so true As may God grant you to be loved again
* Tôi Yêu Em

************************* Confession Pushkin's Confession* to Alina Osipova
I love you -- though I storm and stress, Though vain this toil and melancholy, And to this shameful, hapless folly Here at your feet I will confess! It ill-becomes me; I get older... Time, time to be more sensible! And yet I know the loveđisorder By all the symptoms in my soul: Ím bored without you -- I keep yawning; Ím sad with you -- I suffer through, And barely hold myself from owning, My angel, how I care for you! When in the parlor your light footfall Or dress's rustle reaches me, Or voice so innocent, so youthful, I lose my senses suđenlỵ You smile at me -- Ím glad, immensely; You turn aside -- Ím sad again; Your pallid hand may recompense me For the whole day of utter pain. When you embroider diligently, Bent over casually, though gently, Eyes, ringlets down -- I am beguiled; In silence, tenderly, intently I watch, admire you like a child. But then how wretched my existence, How desolate my jealous pain, When you set out into the distance (At times despite the cold and rain); And then your solitary grieving, And, in a corner, twosome talks, And twosome piano of an evening, And twosome trips, and twosome walks... Alina! have a little mercỵ I wouldn't dare to ask for love: Perhaps, for sins Ím guilty of, My angel, Ím of love unworthy... But feign it! All can be achieved By that expressive gaze, believe me! Ah, it's so easy to deceive me!.. Ím glad myself to be deceived! 1826
*In Russian, the word for "declaration" (of love) also means "confession".
Confession
I love you-- though I rage at it, Though it is shame and toil misguided, And to my folly selfđerided Here at your feet I will admit! It ill befits my years, my station, Good sense has long been overdue! And yet, by every indication, Lovés plague has stricken me anew: Yoúre out of sight-- I fall to yawning; Yoúre here-- I suffer and feel blue, And barely keep myself from owning, Dear elf, how much I care for you! Why, when your guileless girlish chatter Drifts >from next door, your airy tread, Your rustling dress, my senses scatter And I completely lose my head. You smile-- I flush with exaltation; You turn away-- Ím plunged in gloom; Your pallid hand is compensation For a whole day of fancied doom. When to the frame with artless motion You bend to cross-stitch, all devotion, Your eyes and ringlets down-beguiled, My heart goes out in mute emotion Rejoicing in you like a child! Dare I confess to you my sighing, How jealously I chafe and balk When you set forth, at times defying Bad weather, on a lengthy walk? And then your solitary crying, Those twosome whispers out of sight, Your carriage to Opochka plying, And the piano late at night... Aline! I ask but to be pitied, I do not dare to plead for love; Love, for the sins I have committed, I am perhaps not worthy of. But make believe! Your gaze, dear elf, Is fit to conjure with, believe me! Ah, it is easy to deceive me!. . . I long to be deceived myself!
* LỜI TỰ THÚ
Tôi yêu em- dù hóa dại hóa điên Dù đau khổ, bẽ bàng không hy vong, Tôi sẵn lòng quỳ nhận dưới chân em Điều bất hạnh nỗi dại khờ cay đắng, Không còn hợp v+'i tuổi đời, danh tiếng Đến lúc tôi cần biết sống khôn hơn, Nhưng tôi hiểu qua rất nhiều triệu chứng, Trái tim tôiđangmắc bệnh ái tình, Khi vắng em- tôi mệt mỏi chán chường, Khi em đến-lại buồn, tôi chịu đưng, Không nén nổi- muốn thốt lời ngẫu hứng: Thiên thần ơi, ôi biết mấy yêu thương! Khi tôi nghe bên phòng khách cách tường, Tiếng xiêm áo, tiếng chân em nhè nhẹ Và giọng nói ngây thơ trong trẻo thế Bỗng thấy mình như mất cả trí khôn, Khi em cười- tôi rạng rỡ tâm hồn Em ngoảnh mặt- khiến lòng tôi buồn tủi, Vì trọn một ngày khổ đau mệt mỏi, Phần thưởng em trao: bàn tay thương yêu, Lúc em ngồi cần mẫn trước khung thêu, Vóc thon thả, hơi ngả mình lơi lỏng, Đôi mắt ngọc, mái tóc xoăn rủ xuống, Tôi lặng im, như đứa trẻ, đắm nhìn, Có nên nói chăng về nỗi buồn ghen, Về bất hạnh tronglòng tôi day dứt- Em sửa soạn đi chơi xa những lúc Trời tối sầm, ảm đạm, gió từng cơn ? Và giọt lệ em nhỏ giữa cô đơn, Và lời nói nơi chỉ còn hai đứa, Và chuyến đi miền quê đáng nhớ, Và một chiều vọng tiếng pianô ... Alina !
